About Last Night follows best friends Bernie (Kevin Hart) and Danny (Michael Ealy) in their exploration of love and relationships. Bernie meets Joan (Regina Hall) and they immediately start a sexual relationship. Danny is introduced to Debbie (Joy Bryant) who is Joan's best friend and they start off with a regular reltionship. The movie follows the ups and downs of Danny's relationship with Debbie while Bernie deals with Joan who breaks up with him early on in the film. Both are there mainly for comedic relief.
While this film does show partially how couples' relationships can be like, overall it's a dud. I can't even express how much I wanted to love this film. Kevin Hart reteaming with Regina Hall and Michael Ealy from their previous film Think Like a Man (and it's sequel), I couldn't help but feel that this film is just so slow. It's kind of boring really. There are some funny parts in it but overall it's an unnecessary adaptation of an 80's classic. It follows other unnecessary remakes such as Robocop, Poltergeist, Annie, Earth to Echo (actually a remake of E.T.) and more.
That being said, About Last Night does have it's moments. The cast does have chemistry and there are aspects of it that really make you think about your relationship. But it's all lost when you feel the film just drags on, which is a surprise considering its only an hour and forty minutes long. It might be because I expected so much more since it's a Kevin Hart movie that I didn't like it that much, but some people like it more than me. Watch it and decide for yourself.
