Rocknrolla is a complicated film. There is so much going on that it is hard to summarize it so I am putting a summary from IMDB on.
Lenny Cole (Tom Wilkinson) , a London mob boss, puts the bite on all local real estate transactions. For substantial fees, he's helping Uri Omovich (Karel Roden), a Russian developer. As a sign of good faith, Omovich loans Cole a valuable painting, promptly stolen off Cole's wall. While Cole's men, led by the dependable Archy (Mark Strong), look for the canvas, three local petty criminals, the Wild Bunch (Gerard Butler, Idris Elba, and Tom Hardy), steal money from the Russian using inside information from his accountant, the lovely Stella (Thandie Newton). Meanwhile, a local drug-addled rocker, Johnny Quid (Toby Kebbell), is reported drowned, and his connection to Cole is the key to unraveling the deceits and double crosses of life in the underworld.
This is Guy Ritchie's return to what he does best. Crime in London. Ritchie has a different filmmaking style. He really knows how to bring the most out of his actors. Kebbell is amazing as Johnny Quid. He is very believable as a drug addicted and violent rock star son of a gangster. Gerard Butler is also hilarious in his role as One Two, the leader of the gang dubbed The Wild Bunch. Tom Hardy is great as he always is as Handsome Bob, the closeted gang member who is due to go to prison for five years. Strong is also strong (no pun intended) as Archy, Lenny Cole's right hand man. He is funny and scary at the same time. There is a lot going on in this film that it may be hard to follow at times but the performances of all of the actors make up for that to bring you RocknRolla, a hilarious look at a corrupt real estate sale in London.
