Edge of Tomorrow Review

Tom Cruise plays Major William Cage and Emily Blunt plays Sergeant Rita Vrataski in Edge of Tomorrow. Aliens called Mimics have taken over the world and the world has united to fight them. Major William Cage is in charge of the media portion of the war. He is forced into combat against the Mimics however this battle is different. The humans are putting all of their troops in against the Mimics. This is the first time that Cage is seeing combat and he almost immediately dies but not before being covered in the blood of an Alpha Mimic. Suddenly, Cage wakes up with the day reset. Everytime Cage dies, the day resets. As he tries to figure out what is going on, he meets Sergeant Rita Vratski who experienced something similar herself. He gets her help and tries to end the war and kill all of the mimics while reliving the same day over and over again every time he dies.

Tom Cruise does it again. He shows that he is an amazing action star who can do amazing stunts. Edge of Tomorrow is written by Christopher McQuarrie who previously directed Cruise in Jack Reacher and directed by Doug Liman. However, Cruise isn't the same hero he plays in most other films. He is trained by Emily Blunt's Rita Vrataski who is a no nonsense soldier. This has been labeled as a feminist film because Blunt plays a strong female lead. While this film is an action film, there is a lot of humor in it as well, especially in the training montage. This film had the unfortunate circumstance of being one of those great movies that don't make great business. During its run it had to go against Fault In Our Stars, Guardians of the Galaxy, 22 Jump Street, Transformers: Age of Extinction, and many many more. That doesn't mean it's a bad movie. In fact, it's probably the best movie of 2014. It just had the unfortunate circumstance of having bad business.
