When it was first announced, Krampus was thought to fail. With most of the actors being comedians, people were unsure of the film, especially since Kevin Smith announced he is also doing a Krampus film (called Anti-Claus) which is due to be released in two years. When the trailer was released, people were surprised however they were still unsure of the film and how it will be in theaters. When it was finally released, people were surprised at how good the movie actually was.
A boy named Max loses his Christmas spirit when he is embarrassed by his cousins who are visiting. Because of his loss of the spirit, an ancient being comes to punish him and his family.
Krampus is a different type of horror film. It is similar to the Gremlins films in terms of silliness and horror. It is a film for the family, but make sure parents are present with smaller kids since it can get a bit scary at times. According to the director, almost all of the effects are practical which is very rare in films nowadays. Spoiler alert!!! In the end when you finally see Krampus's face, it seems as if Krampus just keeps his mouth open without ever closing it. However this isn't the case. Apparently Krampus wears a mask that looks like Santa Claus to further toy with his victims. Spoiler ended!!! All of the cast are great. It was weird at first knowing it is also a comedy film, however it fits. All of the cast members, especially the actual comedians, are hilarious. Adam Scott and David Koechner can banter as well as Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in the Jump Street series. All of the child actors are great too. You can believe that all of them are related and that they are genuinely terrified throughout the film. This is a fantastic Christmas horror film that should definitely be a classic.
