Guardians of the Galaxy Review

Guardians of the Galaxy was an unexpected success. No one but hardcore Marvel Comics fans knew who they were. Out of the core cast, only Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper were the only ones that have headlined a successful film, even though they just offer their voices to this film. Chris Pratt was famous for his goofy role on Parks and Recreation. Zoe Saldana headlined Columbiana which wasn't that successful. However she is famous for her role in the Star Trek series and Avatar. Dave Bautista was just starting out as an actor. He was in Riddick but that was about it.

Brash space adventurer Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) finds himself the quarry of relentless bounty hunters after he steals an orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain. To evade Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with four disparate misfits: gun-toting Rocket Raccoon, treelike-humanoid Groot, enigmatic Gamora, and vengeance-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when he discovers the orb's true power and the cosmic threat it poses, Quill must rally his ragtag group to save the universe.

The difference between this film and other Marvel films is that only three minutes of the film takes place on earth. The rest takes place on numerous planets (one of which is a head of some ancient being). The sets are magnificent. Every planet has its own distinct environment. Knowhere (the head) feels like a dirty New York City type. Xandar is feels like a Utopia where the Nova Corps are located. The story is wonderful and is lifted by James Gunn and Nicole Perlman's script. The cast has perfect chemistry even though they are all completely opposite. Lee Pace is very commanding as the villain and it is great to see Josh Brolin as Thanos for the first time. This is probably the best Marvel movie simply because it is different than other Marvel films. In a good way.
