The Avengers: Age of Ultron Review

Avengers Age of Ultron is a sequel that Marvel fans have been waiting for since the schwarma scene at the end of The Avengers. Its trailer promised a darker film that pits the heroes against something of their own creation. The cast from the first Avengers all return along with some of the memorable supporting cast from previous Marvel films (with the exception of Loki) and new cast members.

After a successful raid on a HYDRA base, Tony Stark and Bruce Banner create an Artificial Intelligence called Ultron, a peacekeeping protocol designed to help the Avengers protect the world from their enemies. But things go wrong when Ultron sees the human race as a threat and sets out to destroy it along with the Avengers. Now the Avengers, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, the Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, must reassemble to stop Ultron from causing mass destruction. Aside from this, the Avengers also must take on the powerful twins Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch as well as the new entity called Vision. Also, the Avengers find that things may never be the same again after discovering a power beyond their comprehension.

Age of Ultron doesn't bring much to the table. We have seen most of everything in the film. However all of the cast brings their A-game. I'll focus on the newer cast this time. Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor Johnson play the Maximoff twins. Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Some of the new superheroes. Along with them is Paul Bettany who finally gets to act instead of just giving his voice to play the AI butler JARVIS. He plays the Vision who has one of the Infinity Stones in his head. James Spader offers his hypnotic and eerie voice as well as motion capture for Ultron, the film's main villain. The problem with the film isn't the cast. The problem is that at the time, it didn't offer anything new to the series. We have seen the team fight in the previous Avengers film. This film introduces elements that will be explored in later films. Especially Civil War. Also, there was supposedly problems during production. Joss Whedon claims that the studio kept interfering with the production. Which isn't surprising. The first film was such a success that they wanted everything perfect. However Joss Whedon is such a talented director that Marvel should have kept their trust with him.
